What is an electronic signature?
Electronic signature software can describe any signature validated and created by a computer. They work the same way as a traditional wet signature, a signature made with pen and paper. However, they act as a stamp that provides visual confirmation for digital documents.
E-signatures can still be personalized with your handwriting using a mobile or mouse, or you can go simple with initials and a typed name.
These electronic forms confirm consent or approve an electronic document—a parent consent form for the most recent school trip.
What is a digital signature?
The digital signature solution is an example of electronic seals with more security and protection than the basic model. This makes them the preferred choice for any legal matter that requires essential certificates and a more robust legal foundation.
It works this way: Digital Certificates are issued by a Certificate Authority (CA). These certificates can be embedded in signed documents to verify agreement authenticity. This information is encrypted using private keys by the CA through a Public Key Infrastructure. This provides solid legal support and security through encrypting your signed document.
An Audit Trail can also be produced using digital signature technology. This system tracks each step of the signing process and proves who signed it. This information will be sent to you when you download a signed document. You can also access it from the Signature Overview section of your account.
Because a Certified Hash is embedded and a Qualified Timestamp is also embedded, digital signatures protect documents against being altered or tampered with. The encrypted keys constantly change, meaning that any attempt to modify a signed copy will render it invalid. This protects your document over time.
You can't sign one page and then copy it and paste it onto the rest.
Digital signatures can be trusted to be safe because they comply with ESIGN and UETA regulations. These laws are the most stringent in data protection.
